The Maktab App uses cookies only to keep you signed in. There are no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and no third-party tracking of any kind — which is why you have never been asked to accept anything.

Cookie

bury_park_portal_session

What it does

Keeps you signed in to your Maktab's portal. Without it you would have to sign in again on every page.

How long it lasts

Until the session length your Maktab has set expires, or you sign out. Eight hours unless the Maktab has changed it.

Cookie

maktab_platform_session

What it does

The same thing for the separate platform administration site. Most people will never receive this cookie.

How long it lasts

Eight hours, or until sign-out.

How they are protected

Both cookies are marked HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read them, and Secure, so they are only ever sent over an encrypted connection. They are restricted to our own site.

Things kept in your browser that are not cookies

The app remembers a few preferences on your own device — which class you last opened, whether you prefer the phone or desktop version of a walkthrough, an unfinished booking form, and whether you have dismissed the install prompt. These stay on your device, are never sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them.

Fonts

Our public pages load two typefaces from Google Fonts. Doing so tells Google the address of the device requesting them. No cookie is set by this, and it does not happen inside the app itself.

Turning them off

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie will mean you cannot sign in — there is no way around that, because the cookie is how the app knows it is still you.
